Power / Energy Trading Business Analyst - Contract

Location: Birmingham/Solihull (3 days onsite)

Salary: Day Rate up to £550 with some flex (Inside IR35)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (traders, risk managers, and IT teams) to gather and document business requirements for energy trading systems.

  • Analyze trading workflows and identify areas for improvement.

  • Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications.

  • Support the implementation or upgrade of Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems like OpenLink Endur, Allegro, or bespoke solutions.

  • Conduct gap analyses to align the system with business requirements.

  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend system or workflow enhancements.

  • Act as a liaison between business units and technology teams to ensure successful project execution.

  • Develop and manage project documentation, including requirements traceability matrices and test plans.

  • Ensure timely communication and resolution of project risks and issues.

  • Create test cases and conduct system testing to validate that changes meet business needs.

  • Facilitate user acceptance testing (UAT) and gather feedback for system refinement.

  • Ensure energy trading systems comply with industry regulations such as REMIT, EMIR, or Dodd-Frank.

  • Support audits by providing required documentation and insights.

  • Analyze trading data to support decision-making.

  • Develop custom reports or dashboards to provide visibility into trading performance, risks, and compliance metrics.

  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for end users.

  • Provide updates to senior management and stakeholders on project progress and outcomes.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience with ETRM systems such as OpenLink, Allegro, or similar platforms.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

  • Understanding of API integrations and middleware solutions.

Domain Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of energy trading markets (electricity, gas, renewables, oil, etc.).

  • Knowledge of trading lifecycle processes, including front, middle, and back-office functions.

  • Awareness of energy market regulations and compliance standards.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to perform detailed data analysis and process mapping.

  • Strong problem-solving skills for identifying and addressing operational inefficiencies.

Communication and Stakeholder Management:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to bridge communication between technical and non-technical teams.

  • Effective documentation and presentation skills
